One of my favourite local loops is a 16 mile off road circuit that passes by the picturesque Moorgreen Reservoir. When the sun is shining the Reservoir reflects perfectly like mirror.
This is the sixth video of my 'Moorgreen Reservoir loop' playlist. This section goes past the Horse and Groom pub, takes in the scenic view from New Road across the fields before crossing the motorway back towards Hucknall.
To enter this section, you leave Moorgreen reservoir behind and head up the B600 until reaching the Horse and Groom pub. Just after the pub the route takes a left onto New Road which is a smooth lane heading to Hucknall. The lane climbs to reveal a cracking view over the fields on the left. Just before the woods and a right-hand bend at the top, the incline steepens so make sure you save a bit.
After the right hand bend it’s a smooth fast road where you can get up some speed but be careful as cars and horses do use the lane. Don’t make the mistake I made at the next left-hand bend where I sped around the corner to come face to face with two horses. Only good reactions saved me. After the left hand is a sharp right with a house on the left. Just after the house take a left onto a rough farm track. This is a cool descent to cross over the M1, with a second cool descent to take you to the back of a new housing estate where the section finishes.
Whilst I’ve called this ‘Mountain Biking New Road’ there isn’t much ‘Mountain’ involved. Its more appropriate title would probably be ‘Smooth off-road biking of New Road’, but to keep in sync with the rest of the loop articles I’ve stuck with ‘Mountain Biking’.
