One of my favourite local loops is a 16 mile off road circuit that passes by the picturesque Moorgreen Reservoir. When the sun is shining the Reservoir reflects perfectly like mirror.
This is the seventh video of my 'Moorgreen Reservoir loop' playlist. It starts with the short sharp climb near Westville to join Whyburn Lane and through the horse fields to the Newstead bypass.
From section six you appear on Stainsborough road near Hucknall. Continue to Common Lane and take a left immediately toward Misk Farm. You will soon be riding between the fields again, keep an eye out on the right for a Bridleway which looks like it passes straight through a field up and over a steep hill. Well, it does. It’s a tough short climb and my lungs are always burning at the top, but as you pass through the gate and head down the hill the view is cracking. The downhill is amazingly fast parallel to the fence. Make sure you stop in time for the gate at the bottom. Once through the gate its left on Whyburn Lane and then straight right in front of the house onto a rough track.
Continue along the track for half a mile until it looks like you are at a dead end and entering a farm. It’s deceiving as the bridleway is the furthest point to the right sort of around the back of the bait shed. The path opens out onto fields, continue straight on until you come to a junction of rough tracks. Take the route at 10 o’clock which goes into the trees. It stops at a gate and as you go through it you will find horses either side of you. Stick to the track between the electric fence for a hundred yards to reach another gate. Through the gate, along the track and you will find yourself reaching the busy A611 Annesley Rd.
Follow the path along the A611 before crossing the road after the traffic lights. This will take you into the central island of wood where the road splits. In winter this section can be a bog so beware it could be a struggle. It’s then a nice singletrack bringing you to a very steep hill…I challenge anyone to climb it on the bike. I push my bike up and over the top to find a Forest track. Go left and speed through the island wood, keeping right, to come out on the other side of the A611. It’s a nice relaxing track to finish the section. Section 8 then begins back in the Newstead cutting woods on the other side of the road.
