One of my favourite local loops is a 20 mile off road circuit that includes a local climb known as Pig Hill and passes through the picturesque Newstead Abbey Estate.
Over seven articles, I have broken down the loop section by section. For those of you interested in the full loop here are a couple of videos showcasing the route. If you missed the section-by-section information all the links are provided below.
This is one of my favourite videos of the loop, through Thieves wood near Mansfield. It’s a small wood that has numerous fire roads and tracks linking loads of local routes. I have a good 20-mile loop that is mostly made up of just Thieves Wood.
This video is the section through Harlow Wood before making the climb towards Ravenshead.
This video is the hub of the route’s name, Pig Hill. The climb is only short and not actually to steep, but it doesn’t matter which direction you come from it always seems to be a tough climb to get the lungs pumping. It’s worth it though as the downhill is fast and smooth.
Finally, here is the map of the loop. If you pick a dry sunny day, I am sure you will enjoy!!
If you are specifically interested in a section, check out the other individual videos via the links below.
Here is a list of all the sections of the Pig Hill loop.
