When I got up Saturday morning the weather was perfectly as predicted. Of course, it was still pitch black, but the ground was glistening with frost and the sky was clear. I just had to get my gear on and get out on the bike before sunrise. Fortunately, I wasn’t disappointed…
I hope the video does the scenery justice. When the sun was out it was blazing all morning to create some fantastic images.
In the Newsteadestate the ground glistened and the abbey still had a slight eeriness of dark and mist from the cold dawn. It looked special as steam rose from the ground from the start of the morning heat.
As I climbed towards Harlow woodfrom Newstead, it was the best point of the day as the sun crept over the horizon behind me.
Then within Sherwood Pinesthe sun blazed through the trees with fantastic defiance.
The route I did was a lovely route. I was so refreshed when I arrived home ready for another afternoon of Lockdown. Being on the bike really lifts the body and mind. The fresh air is essential when we are cooped up all week.
I always think that I prefer a summer ridewhen the sun is blazing down, and you can ride in shorts and T-shirts. However, I know it is the Sun I love, but being out on a clear, crisp frozen winter morning is equally as enjoyable as a warm Summer evening. I don’t know maybe I’m turning into a winter kid!!
