At the start of summer, I took to the bike in the Scottish Highlands and surrounding isles. As part of an organised Mountain Bike holiday, it wasn’t just an off-road bike trip it was a true ‘Mountain’ bike adventure. I took loads of photos but here are a few of my favourites.
The fourth and last day of the Scotland trip found us heading to Torridon to do a smallish loop, in terms of length, but a longish route in terms of time. The finish to the route is Achnashellach, a famous downhill technical route.
Over the weekend the technical nature of each day has increased. This last ride was well outside my comfort zone in terms of technical riding. The ride was broken into 4 sections, a smooth climb followed by a smooth descent, then a technical climb followed by the Achnashellach downhill.
We breezed through the first two sections and hit the technical climb before we knew it. The day was dry and, in most places sunny, making it ideal for photos. I captured this looking forward onto the technical section of the route.
At the end of the technical climb there was time for a bit of food. The bike went down, and I tucked in. A memorable view as I ate my lunch…
Looking back on the trail the sun was shining. The photo doesn’t really capture the technical nature of the trail or at least the technical nature that my eyes remembered.
No photo section would be complete without an all-out scenic shot, just before we entered the Achnashellach downhill.
An amazing Day 4 in the highlands, a real technical day that pushed me to my limits. A crazy four days that I thoroughly enjoyed.
