The third day we headed from the mainland out over the bridge to the Isle of Skye. The weather wasn’t the best with drizzling rain and lots of midges to keep us company.
Today’s route was a reasonable technical there and back trail into Glen Sligachan with the Cullin Mountains looking over us. There were plenty of rocks to negotiate, snappy climbs and of course water barrs. Halfway in and I captured a rather moody picture of the mountains as we entered the Glen.
The trail was wet and slippy but when the light did appear the route ahead look a sparkling green, very different to the baron landscape I expected.
We had a few stops to refuel and a jump into one of the many ice-cold pools located along the way. Very refreshing. The photo selection wouldn’t be complete without one of my bike shots as we took a break.
After the ride we had a cracking afternoon off the bike. First a pint in the local trail café, then we headed back to the mainland via the manual turntable ferry from Skye to Glenelg, an evening meal in the Glenelg Inn and then on the way back an amazing sunset in the backdrop of Eilean Donan Castle.
An amazing Day 3 in the highlands, not just on the bike but off the bike as well. Last stop on Day 4 is the real technical Torridon route.
