At the start of summer, I took to the bike in the Scottish Highlands and surrounding isles. As part of an organised Mountain Bike holiday, it wasn’t just an off-road bike trip it was a true ‘Mountain’ bike adventure. I took loads of photos but here are a few of my favourites.
The second day we drove over to the Isle of Skye near Sconser and jumped on the Ferry to the Isle of Raasay. It was an amazing view across the water looking at the island. Our Mountain guide pointed out the protruding table top mountain in the centre of the Isle of Raasay and confirmed we would be conquering it during the days ride. Of course we all looked at each other not quite knowing if he was telling the truth.
After leaving the ferry we headed up hill past the distillery and turned into the Forest for the first steep climb of the day. This is the view that greeted us at the top as we looked back on where we had come from.
After the climb and a real adventure, including a beach ride on difficult Stoney beach followed by marsh land we climbed for three quarters of an hour and turned the corner to see an amazing view.
It was a photo heaven and I took a couple of other crackers including this.
From there on it was all uphill to the top of the table including a classic 45 minute hike a bike up the face of decent mound, we came out on the plateau to another amazing view across the sea to the mainland.
All I can say is roll on the rest of the trip. Day 2 was a real adventure not just a bike ride. We got to places you just couldn’t without a mountain bike.
